When is someone from Aargau actually from Aargau?

Baseline

The project scope is to enrich a dataset on Wikidata containing 2'229 items – persons and music groups – with structured data of place names to gain new insights and visualization possibilities.

On Wikidata, Bibliothek und Archiv Aargau created a project list of all persons and music groups the works of are being systematically collected and made accessible at the Cantonal Library of Aargau (Aargauer Kantonsbibliothek): https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Wikidata:WikiProject_Aargauer_Bibliografie

Their common denominator is the statement "on focus list of Wikimedia project" (https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Property:P5008) with the entity "WikiProject Aargauer Bibliografie" (https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q131160831).

But in fact, every person and every music group has a relation to the Canton of Aargau : a place of birth, a residence, a work location and/or a place of death.

The primary goal is to acquire structured data with place names to create a vizualisation of the Canton of Aargau’s cultural life, such as display on a map. All of this should help to provide better search options for users.

Pains

  • The metadata often lack unique identifiers such as GND or IdRef or ISNI. But every person or music group has at least one work available in the Cantonal Library on https://abn.swisscovery.ch
  • Of course, for the moment, we are only interested in places in the Canton of Aargau :-)

Goals

  • Add structured data with place names to the existing metadata on Wikidata (e.g. from GND).
  • Assure the quality of acquired data.
  • Documentation of process and challenges.
  • Use enhanced data to create a map of all authors, artists and music groups oft he Canton of Aargau.

Dataset All 2'229 Wikidata files with the following statement : "on focus list of Wikimedia project" (https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Property:P5008) with the entity "WikiProject Aargauer Bibliografie" (https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q131160831).
